Don’t forget about the retardedness of having co-national champions. There was only one time the BCS played out correctly…When VY-Until-I-Die shocked the world and beat USC!! Hook em Horns!

College Football, Football

College football sucks.

I’m definitely not the first to complain about this, and I’m not going to be the last.  But in no other sport is the national champion decided by a polls and a computer, rather than on the field.  It’s ridiculous and it needs to stop.  The athletes put their sweat and hard work into a season of football, leaving it all on the field and risking injury while only getting a college scholarship in return (in theory).  Meanwhile, some fat sportswriter sitting at a desk and a computer programmer are the ones who decide the champion.

Horseshit, horseshit, horseshit.

At the BCS meetings this week, the SEC’s Mike Silve proposed a “plus one” format to determine the national champion.  It called for the No. 1-seeded BCS team to play the No. 4-seeded team, and the No. 2 to play the No. 3 in a pair of semifinal games.  The two winners would play for the national championship.  You know, like a football version of the Final Four.

The other 10 conference commissioners shot down that proposal down quicker than Amy Winehouse downs shots.

Chug chug chug!!

If there is a logical reason behind wanting to keep this antiquated system, I have yet to hear it.  Everyone clings to the reason that “a playoff would cheapen the value of the regular season”.  So is the NFL regular season cheapened by a playoff?  Or the regular seasons in every other NCAA sport?

And I have a hard time seeing the “value” of a game like Oklahoma pounding North Texas 79-10 or Texas Tech beating Northwestern State 75-7.  Having a playoff system would not cheapen the regular season as much as these teams running up the score trying to gain a larger point differential.

But no matter how much I complain, we’re stuck with the BCS until 2014.  So I’m done with college football until then.  Pardon me if I take the money I would normally spend on the office College Bowl pool and use it on something else.

Like downing shots.  Move over, Amy!
