Quick Outs - 4/29

SK @ April 29, 2008 # No Comment Yet

Here’s my answer to all the draft report cards.  The only way to judge the success of failure of these things at this point, only two days after the fact, is to ask “who’s kicking themselves the least today?”  In that regard, Kansas City, Dallas, and Pittsburgh are probably most satisfied, while Jacksonville and Tennessee are […]

Paper Tiger?

Little SK @ April 27, 2008 # 2 Comments

For someone who once described to Charles Barkley that on his first day of kindergarten, he was tied to tree and had nigger spray painted on him, shouldn’t Tiger have insights about race in America to share with us? His role as a corporate endorser means he can wield considerable influence. But is that influence enough to affect what we say and think about minorities?

Pick And Pop - NBA Weekly Bullets

SK @ April 26, 2008 # No Comment Yet

The first week of the 2008 Playoffs is in the books.  Here are my thoughts:

Tim Duncan’s improbable 3-pointer will be one of those plays where you say “I remember where I was when…”  Holy shit.  Not only did it effectively win the Spurs the game, it could have broken the Suns back for the entire […]

NHL Playoffs - 2nd Round Previews

In the American sports landscape, football is the national obsession, baseball is the national past-time, basketball is where amazing happens, soccer is growing in popularity and hockey? Sadly it’s overlooked. Despite my love of football and futbol, I’m a firm believer that when it’s played properly, ice hockey is the best team sport in the […]

Quick Outs - Bonus Edition

SK @ April 23, 2008 # No Comment Yet

So I had planned to have the “Quick Outs” feature be a weekly thing, but two HUGE stories came out of the NFL over the past 24 hours that I had to weigh in on:

Commissioner Goodell and Matt Walsh have agreed to terms so that Walsh can finally show us any “damaging” evidence he has […]

Quick Outs - NFL Weekly Bullets

SK @ April 22, 2008 # 3 Comments

Seahawks just cut Sean Alexander.  Dude was breaking rushing records and was the league MVP in 2005 and now he’s looking for a job.  With a fall from grace like that, his name might as well be Bear Stearns.
It’s official - Jake Long will be the first pick of the draft this Saturday.  It’s possible […]

Mcnair > Favre

If you clicked on ESPN.com, SI.com, or any other mainstream sports site during the last couple of days, you probably missed the announcement that Steve McNair is retiring.

What a shame.

Battle Of The Acronyms

SK @ April 19, 2008 # 2 Comments

KG.  CP3.  KB24.  LBJ.  We really love to acronymize our athletes.  But only one acronym matters for the purpose of this article: MVP.
So who wins it?  All four have had seasons worthy of the award, and would have run away with it in any other year.  It’s fitting that the most exciting finish in the […]

Getting Torched

SK @ April 14, 2008 # One Comment

The 2008 Olympic Torch relay began inconspicuously enough.  The torch was lit in Olympia, Greece, as always, and went to Beijing, China on March 31st to begin its five month journey around the world and back.  And that’s when the madness began.
Ever since they were awarded the Olympics, China has been planning on using them as an economic and political […]

Let the ‘Real’ Madness begin

Little SK @ April 12, 2008 # One Comment

Around the time that UCLA was squeaking by Texas A&M in the tourney by a score of 51-49 the Western Conference began the most competitive playoff push ever. The stakes have been higher and the teams have been playing with more urgency than I’ve ever seen before in any sport. Every game is like a game 7 and we’re about to wrap it up by throwing the best eight teams into the Octagon to see who comes out with least amount of blood on them. Let the games begin.

Rock, Chalk and Next Year’s Setup

Congratulations to the Kansas Jayhawks for one of the more breathtaking title runs in recent memory. Mario Chalmers’ 3-pointer to force overtime was reminiscent of Christian Laettner’s shot to beat Kentucky in 1992. Except that Chalmers’ shot was in the title game whereas Laettner’s was only in a Regional Final. Memphis certainly deserves much praise […]

Jayhawks and Front Runners

First off, congrats to the KU Jayhawks for their improbable victory last night.  The game was close, but Memphis still appeared to have it in hand throughout the night.  This sports fan actually contemplated going to bed with about 5 minutes left in the game, because it actually wasn’t all that exciting until the last two minutes.  […]

Noble Results - Part Deux

SK @ April 3, 2008 # No Comment Yet

Well then.  All the number one seeds have survived and are hurtling towards San Antonio for a historic Final Four.  And I’m left to wonder about all those losers that randomly picked their brackets, knowing that the four top seeds have never made the final four in any single tournament.
Oh wait, didn’t you do that, […]
