What was the name of the mythical bird that dies in a spectacular flame, but then rises from the ashes?
The Phoenix.
And not unlike the namesake of his new home, Shaquille O’Neal, burned from the Heat, will attempt to rise from the ashes to make one more championship run.
Shaq was traded Wednesday to the Suns for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks. When I first read the rumor on ESPN.com, I made the universal “WTF?” face at my monitor (think Tom Brady watching Eli Manning hoist the Lombardi Trophy… yea, that face).

Rumors came out last week that Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder is considering hiring Jim Fassel as his new head coach. Upon which, a Redskin fan colleague of mine asked if there was a way the fans could take the team away from Snyder.
And naïve as it may sound, fans of Liverpool FC in Britain are actually trying something like this. Unhappy with the team’s American ownership, a group called Share Liverpool FC announced a plan last week to try to purchase the team away from the current group led by George Gillett and Tom Hicks. The basis of this plan is getting 100,000 Liverpool fans to donate £5,000 each, in order to raise enough capital to purchase the team and build a new stadium.
